Jón Ingimundarson was born on May 31, 1829 in Rangárvallasýsla. He died on August 22, 1891 in Spanish Fork.

Jón took up the Mormon faith on April 25, 1886 and, in May, he emigrated west to Utah with Margrét, Guðrún, and Ingimundur. Þórdís emigrated west with the rest of her children in the fall of the same year. They settled in Spanish Fork and Jón worked there as a carpenter.
