Jón Júlíus Jónsson was born in Eyjafjarðarsýsla on July 19, 1857. He died in Winnipeg on September 9, 1933.
Spouse: Sigrún Jónína Jónsdóttir b. May 11, 1862 in Eyjafjarðarsýsla, d. in Winnipeg on May 14, 1946.
Children: 1. Þórunn Florentina (Flora Benson) b. August 18, 1882 2. Jón Lárus b. 1892 d. 1913 3. Norman b. 1896, d. 1909. Two other children died young.
Jón emigrated west to Winnipeg in 1876 and remained there the rest of his life. In the first years, he worked on road construction in the city, and was involved in real estate activities. He was very active in the Icelandic community. Sigrún emigrated west with her mother, Sigurlaug Sæmundsdóttir, and her husband, Kristján Kærnested, the same year as Jón.
