Jón emigrated to Winnipeg in Manitoba in 1882 but Kristjana brought Hannes and Sigríður Júlíana a year later. Guðbjörg emigrated in 1889. They settled in Icelandic River Settlement where they lived until 1904. Floods in Lake Winnipeg forced them off their land and the moved west to the Shoal Lake Settlement.
