They emigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1876 and traveled on to New Iceland the same year, taking land in the Árnes Settlement. They moved in 1879 and took land in the Akra Settlement in North Dakota. Jón returned to Iceland in 1884 and once again came west and returned to his land in Akra in 1885.
