Jón Jónsson was born on March 7, 1840 in N. Múlasýsla.  He died on March 1, 1916 in New Iceland. He took the name Austmann (Eastman) in the west.

Spouse: Guðlaug Halldórsdóttir b. April 23, 1850; d. April 1, 1925.

They came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1883 and then traveled to and settled in Akra, N. Dakota. Traveling with them was  Jóns’ sister Þóra Jónsdóttir. From there, they moved to Roseau, Minnesota in 1898 and then to New Iceland in 1906 and settled in the Icelandic River Settlement.  They lived at Skálholt.
