Jón came west to Minnesota in 1883 with his parents, Jón Eyjólfsson and María Ingibjörg Jónsdóttir. They settled in Lincoln County and that is where Jón grew up. Sigurveig was the daughter of Árni Magnússon and Sigurbjörg Árnadóttir, who later married Jón Eyjólfsson, Jón’s father. Jón and Sigurveig later moved to Minneapolis.
