Jón Jónsson was born on July 31, 1834 in the Westmann Islands (Vestmannaeyjar). He died on July 15, 1913.
Spouse: 1. Anna Guðlaugsdóttir b. September 30, 1835; d. 1915 2. Ingibjörg Sigríður Jónsdóttir b. January 18, 1850 in Skagafjarðarsýsla. She died on January 31, 1941. She was known as Imba Johnson in Utah. This was a plural marriage.

Jón left Iceland on June 7, 1857 and went abroad to England. From there, he traveled to Philadelphia, St. Louis, Burlington, Iowa, and finally to Fairfield, Iowa where he lived for a half a year. He moved to Utah on August 19, 1859 and settled in Spanish Fork and lived there several years. He then joined the Army and, in 1863, moved to North Bend, now known as Richfield, Utah. When the Black Hawk War ended, he moved back to Spanish Fork.
