Jón Jónsson was born on February 9, 1824 in Strandasýsla. He died after 1900.

Children: With Oddhildur: 1. Jón b. 1854 2. Hallgrímur 3. Sigríður came west. With Helga: 1. Anna Kristín b. November 6, 1878, d. in Manitoba in 1947 2. Sæunn b. 1883 3. Jón b. 1885, d. 1944 4. Helga b. in the west. Helga Lilja had Sigurlaug Steinvör Sigurðardóttur in 1876.
They came west to Winnipeg in 1887 and settled in the Hnausa Settlement in New Iceland on land that had been owned by Eyjólfur Benediktsson and called Eyjólfsstaðir. Jón took over the land and renamed it Jónsstaðir. They moved in 1897 to Selkirk.
