Jón Jónsson Freeman

Jón Jónsson was born on February 21, 1857 in Dalasýsla. He died in the Akra Settlement in N. Dakota on August 13, 1901. He took the last name Freeman in the west.

Jón came west with his mother, stepfather, and siblings in 1874 and went to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He seems to have been there for a while over the decade, but then took land in the Akra Settlement in N. Dakota where he lived until his death. Helga Jakobína came west alone in 1882 and went to the Akra Settlement in N. Dakota. When Jón died, she stopped farming and moved to Upham where her daughter Sigríður lived.
