Jón Jónsson was born on August 7, 1856 in Dalasýsla. He died in Winnipeg, Manitoba on April 30, 1904.
Spouse: Guðbjörg Guðbrandsdóttir b. May 22, 1863, d. in 1960.
Children: 1) Katrín, died at only one year of age 2) Sigþrúður Kristín Gísladóttir, foster daughter, d. August 18, 1906 3. Karl Hansson, Guðbjörg’s nephew.
They emigrated by sea to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1883 and lived there for two years before settling in the Argyle Settlement in 1885. In 1890, they moved to the Þingvalla Settlement in Saskatchewan and lived there the next three years with Guðbrand, Guðbjörg’s brother. They moved back to Winnipeg and Jón worked in house construction. He was killed in an accident there. Guðbjörg moved west to the Pacific and last lived in Blaine, Washington.
