Jón Jónsson was born at Munkaþverá in Eyjafjarðarsýsla on October 9, 1852. He died on December 21, 1945.
Spouse: July 19, 1877 Guðný Eiríksdóttir b. January 19, 1844 in S. Þingeyjarsýsla. She died on September 7, 1923 in Blaine, Washington.

Jón emigrated to Ontario in Canada in 1875. He worked in Gravenhurst for some time, then moved south to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He joined the first settlers later in the fall on their way to New Iceland where he took land in the Víðirnes Settlement, naming it Akur. He moved to Winnipeg with wife and daughter in 1879 and worked as a carpenter the first winter. From there, they moved to Pembina in N. Dakota in the fall of 1880, took land there and built a house. Jón sold it and they moved west in the settlement. They moved from there south to Grand Forks, N. Dakota in 1891 and in 1904 to the Vatnabyggð Settlement in Saskatchewan where they lived until 1910. They then moved west to Vancouver where they lived for two years before moving south to Blaine, Washington in 1912. Jón lived there until 1930. He visited Iceland that year, had actually gone there in 1909 as well.
