Jón Mikael Hannesson was born in 1861 in Hnappadalssýsla , d. in Winnipeg on February 10, 1942.
Spouse: 1) first wife died after a few years of marriage 2) June 24, 1893 in Winnipeg Solveig Eysteinsdóttir b. February 25, 1868 in Dalasýsla, d. in Selkirk December 21, 1928.

Jón Mikael came west to Winnipeg in 1886 and worked in carpentry. Solveig came west to New York in 1887 with her sister Þorgerðuri. They lived in Sayreville County in New Jersey the first year, then moved west to Winnipeg. Jón and Solveig lived in Winnipeg until after the turn of the century, then moved to Selkirk in 1903 and spent the rest of their lives there.
