Jón was the son of Magnús Jónsson of Eyjafjörður and Sigurrós Guðlaugsdóttir who came west in 1874. Guðrún’s parents were Sigurður Sigurðsson Ísfeld and Kristín Hallfríður Ófeigsdóttir. Magnús died in 1914 and Jón and Guðrún took over the farm near Glasston, N. Dakota. Jón’s mother lived with them until her death.
