Jón Pétur Bergþórsson was born in Möðrudal in N. Múlasýsla in 1883. He died on February 5, 1958 in Lundar, Manitoba.

Spouse: December 26, 1915 Petrína Magnúsdóttir b. in Lundar in 1889.

Children: 1. Guðrún (Runa) b. 1915 2. Ólafur (Oli) 3. Vilhelmína (Mina) 4. Albert 5. Magnús 6. Jón (John).

Jón was the son of Bergþór Jónsson and Vilhelmína Eyjólfsdóttir and came west with them to Canada in 1889. Petrína was the daughter of Magnús Ólafsson and Helga Jónsdóttir who came west in 1887 and settled in the Lundar Settlement. Jón grew up in his father’s house in the Lundar Settlement and soon began to work for himself. At a young age, he got a job at Joe Halldorson’s store in Lundar. He bought horses and a cart, filled the cart with all kinds of necessities from the store, and traveled to remote places by Lake Manitoba and sold goods. In the winter he used a sleigh. He usually spent a few days on the expedition and then stayed with the farmers. He later worked for the CNR railway company.
