Jón Pálsson was born in Skagafjarðarsýsla in 1858. He died at the Betel care home in Gimli on May 12, 1927.
Unmarried and childless.
He came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba with his mother Rósa Steinsdóttir in 1883 and went south from there to N. Dakota the same year. Jón took land in the Hallson community in 1886, but moved north to the Brown Settlement in Manitoba in 1908.
