Vigdís emigrated to Ontario Canada in 1874 and Jón came west in 1875. Together, they moved east to Markland, Nova Scotia. They took land in that community and named their farm Brúarland. They moved west to the Plains and took land in the Argyle Settlement in 1885. They lived there for some time before moving to Selkirk where they lived out their lives.
