Jón Sigfússon was born in Eyjafjarðarsýsla in 1857. He died in 1937. He took the last name Thorlacíus in the west.
Spouse: 1887 Guðrún Rósa Jóhannesdóttir b. 1861 in Eyjafjarðarsýsla.
Children: 1. Bjarni J. b. 1891 2. Sigfús Daníel b. 1898.
They came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1889 and moved on to Churchbridge in the Þingvalla settlement in Saskatchewan where he worked in a retail store. They moved from there two years later and lived in Yorkton and then in White Sands at the turn of the century. They moved to the Lakes settlement (Vatnabyggð) in 1903 and took land. In 1904 a post office was opened on Jón’s land which was called Kristnes, and Jón served as the Post Master for many years. The community that grew up there was called Kristnes.
