Jón Sigurðsson was born on September 1, 1870 at Mýrum í Skriðdal in S. Múlasýsla. He died on May 17, 1935.
Spouse: 1) 1893 Kristín Jónsdóttir b. in S. Þingeyjarsýsla on February 13, 1860. She died on May 30, 1909. 2) 1921 Sigrún Sumarrós Sigvaldadóttir b. in Eyjafjrðarsýsla on July 20, 1892, d. January 20, 1977 in Gimli.

Jón came west with his parents in 1883 and settled at Ekru in the Hnausa Settlement. Jón grew up there and lived there with Kristín. He bought land in the Vidir-Sand Hills Settlement in 1905. He established a post office there he called Víðir and provided postal service between Árborg and the Vidir-Sandy Hills Settlement.
