Jón Sigvaldason was born in Skagafjarðarsýsla in 1866. Died in Riverton, Manitoba in 1948.
Spouse: 1898 Sigrún (Rúna) Jóhanna Þorgrímsdóttir b. 1878 in Icelandic River Settlement, d. in Riverton in 1966.
Children: 1. Kapitóla b. in Selkirk, 1899 2. Valdína Steinunn b. 1900 3. Auróra d. young 4. Þorbjörg Auróra b. 1907 5. Lára b. 1912, d. in accident less than six years 6. Alvin Soffonías b. 1916, d. 1958.
Jon emigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1892 and worked in the city to begin with. Found work in New Iceland and settled in Icelandic River Settlement and called his plave Akur. Jón’s mother, Soffia Jonsdottir, moved west and lived with Jon for some time. Later she moved west to Blaine, Washington where she died in 1923.
