Jón Stefánsson was born on April 27, 1873 in N. Múlasýsla. He died in Baltimore on October 29, 1932.

Jón came west to Winnipeg in 1893 but moved from there to Minnesota. He returned to Iceland in 1900, then went to study in Copenhagen. He returned to Iceland and worked in Seyðisfjörður from 1902 until 1913, then came back west by sea. They lived the longest in Baltimore. See Employment (Atvinna) below.
