They emigrated west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1883 and traveled on to New Iceland where Jón died shortly thereafter coming west. María took land in the Víðirnes Settlement and named the farm Kelduland. She lived there a few years before moving to Selkirk. She moved from there to the West Coast.
