Jón came west to Winnipeg in 1886, while Ingveldur came together with her sister Þórey and her family in 1888. They moved to New York and then to Duluth, Minnesota. Jón went there and is registered there in 1898. He worked for Kristján Jónsson from Sveinatunga, the director of Forest Hill Cemetery. In 1910 he was a dairy farmer west of the city, but lived in the city.
