Jóna Björg was the daughter of Högni Guðmundsson and Guðrún Guðný Jónsdóttir, pioneer settlers at Laufás in the Lundar settlement. Björn’s parents were Björn Austmann an Jónína Guðmundsdóttir in Lundar. He grew up in East Iceland (Austurland) and at age 20, came to the West with his parents in 1901. They lived in Garðar, N. Dakota for seven years, then the road led him north to the Lundar settlement where he lived after that. He was a farmer.
