Jónas Gíslason: He was born on April 5, 1838 at Viðvíkursveit in Skagafjarðarsýsla and died on July 22, 1907.
Spouse: María Jónsdóttir: Born in 1843 in Skagafjordur. Died October 30, 1937. Took the name Gíslason in the west.
Children: 1) Jón Ingimar b. November 1, 1879. Died September 10, 1939. 2) Guðríður Ingibjörg b. 1883
They came west in 1888 and settled in Mountain N. Dakota, living there for 5 years before moving to Akra where they lived for 8 years.
In 1901, they moved to New Iceland and took land in the Framnes-Árdals Settlement. The land had not been surveyed and therefore, was not recognized as available for homesteading. Jónas worked hard to build a house and create a farm, but was denied the right to homestead the land. He continued to fight, but died in 1907. A year later, María won the case and was able to homestead the land.
Jón Ingimar later bought the land from his mother and lived there.
