Jónas came west to the United States in 1899 and went west to Point Roberts, Washington where his sister Guðríður lived. He was there until 1907, then moved to Seattle and lived there in his later years. Mildríður came west to Winnipeg in 1887 with her parents, Sigfús B. Guðmundsson and Guðrún Árnadóttir. They moved west to the Pacific and settled in Victoria, British Columbia.
