Jónas and family came west to N. Dakota in 1889 and lived there 13 years before making their way to the Lakes settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan in 1903. They took land near Kristnes. Sigríður was a widow when she came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1889. Her children were: 1. Gróa Jónsdóttir b. 1876 2. Hans Gíslason b. 1881 3. Stefanía Gísladóttir b. 1884. Sigríður and her children took the last name Ísfeld in the west.
