Jónatan Jónatansson was born in Húnavatnssýsla on May 8, 1848. He died in Thornhill, Manitoba on November 11, 1935. He took the last name Líndal in the west.
Spouse: Ingibjörg Soffía Benediktsdóttir b. November 29, 1856, d. in Manitoba April 28, 1936.
Children: 1. Kristín Ingunn b. September 6, 1882 2. Jakob b. September 3, 1883 3. Gróa Helga b. December 27, 1884 4. Ágúst Benedikt b. 1887 5. Ágústa Björg b. November 1, 1888 in Garðar, ND 6. Þorsteinn Benedikt b. December 19, 1890 8. Stefanía Guðrún b. May 2, 1892 9. Helga b. March 10, 1899, d. January 17, 1909. Three children died young: 1. Björg d. in Iceland 2. Elís Henry b. 1884, d. same year 3. Jósef Júlíus b. December 26, 1895, d. same year. Jónatan had these children from his first marriage: 1. Jósep b. 1869 2. Vilhelmína b. 1872.
Jónatan and Ingibjörg came west with their four oldest children and Jósep and Vilhelmína in 1887. They first went to Winnipeg, Manitoba and from there they soon moved on to their land in the Garðar Settlement. They moved from there to the Brown Settlement, Manitoba in 1899 and settled there. They became involved in various community improvements, e.g., they gave land for school construction and the school was named Líndalskóli in their honor. Later the school district was also named in their honor and was called the Lindal District.
