 Jónína Sigríður Jónsdóttir was born in Strandasýsla on November 8, 1885. She took the last name Halldorson in the west.

Björn came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba with his father and elder brother in 1889. They went first to Pembina, N. Dakota. Björn followed his father and brothers from there to the Bluff peninsula, on the west side of Lake Manitoba and out to Red Deer Lake. From there Björn went to Big Point in 1902, first started farming on Ólafur Hannesson’s land but moved to Langruth and worked in construction and fishing. Jónína came west in 1888 with her mother, Sigríður Friðriksdóttir.
