Jón came west in 1891 to Winnipeg, Manitoba. He lived there until 1903 but they then moved to the Þingvalla settlement in Saskatchewan. He later moved to the Pacific coast. Jónína came west with her parents, Kristján Sigurðsson and Ingveldur Bjarnadóttir, in 1875.
