Jörgen came west with his mother, Sigurbjörg Sigurðardóttir, and her husband, Sigfinnur Pétursson, in 1878. Jóhannes Halldórsson, Ella’s father, came west across the ocean in 1873 and settled in Wisconsin. He moved west from there with the first Icelanders to settle in Minnesota and was one of the pioneer settlers of the Icelandic colony. Borghildur Guðbrandsdóttir came west to Wisconsin the same year and married Jóhannes in 1878 in Minnesota. Jörgen and Ella lived in Minneota.
