Jórunn was the daughter of Magnús Hinriksson and Kristín Þorsteinsdóttir, who came west to Canada in 1887. Jórunn followed the path of education and was one of the first women to complete a law degree from the University of Manitoba. She was very involved in the social affairs of her countrymen as well as community affairs in Manitoba.
