Jósef Helgason was born in N. Þingeyjarsýsla in 1845. He died in 1912.
Spouse: 1) 1866 Hólmfríður Jónsdóttir, d. in Iceland 2) Guðrún Árnadóttir b. August 16, 1854 in N.Þingeyjarsýsla.
Children: With Hólmfríður: 1. Helgi Jón b. 1873 2. Jóhann Pétur b. 1874. With Guðrún: 1. Árni Soffonías 2. Hólmfríður 3. Margrét 4. Frímann.
Jósef came west with his son Helgi Jón in 1878. They were first in New Iceland, then moved from there to the Argyle Settlement in 1881. Jóhann Pétur arrived there in 1883. Jósef later moved to the Hóla Settlement. From there, he moved north to Lake Manitoba and lived for one year at Birds Island but then settled in Big Point in 1895.
