Jósef emigrated west in 1873 and first lived in Wisconsin. He moved to Minnesota and bought land in the Yellow Medicine Settlement, naming the farm Einarsstadir. He sold the land in 1913 and moved to Minneota. Stefanía emigrated west in 1879 with her daughter Anna Stefánsdóttir.
