Júlíana came west as a widow in 1888 with her son Jósafat and his wife, Sigurborg Þorsteinsdóttir. She brought her grandson, Guðmundur Júníusson, eight years old, with her. They traveled to Duluth and in the 1895 census, the three siblings, Ásgrímur, Jósafat and Helga María live in the city. Ásgrímur and his wife, Sigríður Jónsdóttir, came west in 1891.
