For many years she was an organist at the Vídalín congregation in N. Dakota and was a teacher at the Icelandic school in Hallson and Hensel for over five years. Sigurður was the son of Árni Friðbjarnason and Guðrún Magnúsdóttir in Mountain. Sigurður was in the US Navy from July 15, 1918 until the end of the war, then became a farmer in the countryside near Mountain.
