Kjartan Friðrik Eðvarðsson was born in S. Múlasýsla on June 25, 1870. He died in Yellow Medicine County in Minnesota on September 4, 1967. He took the last name Edwards.

Kjartan came west in 1878 to Minnesota with his parents, Eðvarð Þorleifsson and Sesselja Jónsdóttir. They settled in Yellow Medicine County. Kjartan and Guðrún lived there as well.
