Kristbjörg Þorsteinsdóttir was born on June 12, 1851 in S. Múlasýsla. She died on May 2, 1946 in Minnesota. She took the last name Burthes at marriage.

Kristbjörg came west to Canada with her son in 1878. With them was her father, Þorsteinn Erlendsson, and her brother Magnús. They came south to Minnesota and lived there. Kristbjörg and Oli farmed in the country until 1918 but then quit farming and moved to Minneota.
