Kristfríður emigrated in 1887 to Winnipeg, Manitoba with her father, Torfi Sveinsson and foster mother, Guðrún Jónsdóttir. They all moved to the Argyle Settlement. Jónas came west and arrived there with his parents in 1888. Kristfríður and Jónas lived there the rest of their lives.
