Kristín came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1904 with her son Jón, Bjarni came there in 1910. Gunnar had come west to Winnipeg in 1898 likely after divorcing his wife, Anna Þorsteinsdóttir. Gunnar applied for land in the Árdals Settlement in 1909 but it turned out to be wet, and Gunnar returned it and moved with Kristina and her boys to Arborg. They lived there until 1921, then moved to Selkirk. Gunnar then moved to Bethel in Gimli in 1933.
