Jósef and Kristín emigrated west on the same ship, the St. Patrick, in 1874. They lived in Kinmount, Ontario the first winter and together went to New Iceland in the fall of 1875. They spent their first years there before moving to Hallson, N. Dakota in 1880. They lived there until 1901 when they returned to Canada and settled in the Geysir Settlement in New Iceland.
