Árni came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1887. He first worked there on the railroad, but when his brother Einar and their mother, Elinborg Jóhannsdóttir, came west, they all moved to Pilot Mound, southwest of Winnipeg. Kristín arrived there in 1894. Kristín and Árni decided to move to the Lundar Settlement in 1899 and lived there the rest of their lives.
