Pétur and Kristín emigrated west to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1873 with Ingibjörg, Hallgrím, the 10 year-old cousin of Pétur, and Kristgerður Kristinsdóttir, one year old, who was Kristín’s niece, the daughter of Kristinn and his wife Katrín Ólafsdóttir. They settled in Stanton, Wisconsin, where Pétur died. The widow, Kristín, accompanied her brother, Kristinn, west to Minnesota and N. Dakota.
