They came west across the ocean in 1887 to Winnipeg, Manitoba. Magnús worked on the railroad construction the first years, but then they moved to the Þingvalla Settlement in Saskatchewan in 1891 where he took land. They lived there until 1905 then sold that land and bought other land in the same settlement. They lived there the rest of their lives.
