Kristján and María emigrated west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1886. They went to his brother Stefan’s home in 1887 in Víðirnes, but moved to Selkirk and lived there for a short time. They took land in the Víðirnes Settlement in 1893 and remained there until 1908 when they moved north to Dog Lake, Manitoba. From there they moved west to the Pacific in 1920 and settled on Vancouver Island.
