Kristján Hallgrímsson was born in 1864 in Eyjafjarðarsýsla. He died in 1938 in Seattle. He took the name Kristjan H. Gislason in the west.

Hallfríður Hallgrímsdóttir sailed west with Magnús in 1883. Kristján emigrated west to Wisconsin with his parents, Hallgrímur Gíslason and Herdís Jónsdóttir, and his siblings in 1873. They settled in the Garðar Settlement in N. Dakota in 1880 and Hallfríður arrived there in 1883. She and Kristján started farming, but in 1894 they moved to the village and ran a hotel there until 1901. They moved west to Seattle where Kristján worked as a carpenter. Hallfríður’s health deteriorated and for many years she was in poor health.
