Kristján Jóhannsson was born in New Iceland in 1879. He died in Pembina County in 1959. He took the last name Geir in N. Dakota.

Kristján moved with his parents from New Iceland to Mountain, N. Dakota in 1880. With his father’s death in 1887, his mother (Anna Geir) relied on him to run the farm and, when he married in 1908, he had added an apartment to his mother’s house and lived there until his mother’s death. They later moved to Edinburgh, N. Dakota and he was a farmer all his life. Solveig was the daughter of Þorgil Halldórsson and Kristín Jónsdóttir who lived in the Eyford Settlement.
