Kristjana was one year old when she emigrated west with her parents, Gísli Jónsson and Jónína Veigalín Jónsdóttir, to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1902. Her grandfather and grandmother, Jón Ólafsson and Geirdís Ólafsdóttir, her father’s parents, accompanied them. They settled in Selkirk where Kristjána grew up. Her father went west to the Pacific Ocean in 1914 to explore fishing-related possibilities. There he found what he was looking for in Oslo, British Columbia and the family moved there in 1918. Kristjana and her husband lived in White Rock, British Columbia.
