Kristjana was the daughter of Daníela Daníelsdóttir and Stefán Daníelsson. Sigmundur was a young man when he moved to Reykjavík and became a goldsmith. He came west to Manitoba in 1913 and settled in Winnipeg. From there, he and Kristjana moved west to Vancouver where Sigmundur opened a store and workshop.
