They came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1883 with children Þuríður and Skúli. Þorbjörg was taken in as a foster child and was sent west to the family in 1900. Traveling with them was Kristján Jónsson, the father of Ragnheiður and her sister Valgerður Kristjánsdóttir. They settled in the Pembina Settlement in N. Dakota. Kristján’s son Gunnar came west in 1876.
