She came west to Canada in 1900 with her widowed mother, Sigurást Daðadóttir. They were in N. Dakota until 1905, then moved west to Markerville, Alberta. There Sigurást married Jóhann Björnsson and Laufey grew up in their home. Resources (Dalamenn III) say she was in an orchestra and married a Canadian man.
